I'm a first-time mom living on the shoreline of Connecticut and am all about healthy living, traveling, beauty, home and more.

FOLLOW ME @MEGHANYOSTDOTCOM

My diet ebs and flows and during the first trimest My diet ebs and flows and during the first trimester, it most definitely ebbed. I didn’t want to eat anything I normally eat - smoothies, salads, etc. Literally all I wanted were bagels and cream cheese. 😳
.
But I always find my way back to eating plant based because I truly believe it’s best for our bodies - protective against diseases like cancer and COVID that is currently ravaging our country right now - probably because of the poor standard American diet filled with processed and nutrient deficient foods.
.
Have you ever REALLY looked at the ingredient list on that so called “healthy” bread you buy from the grocery store or the dressing you put on your salad? It’s probably loaded with sugar, additives and preservatives, all of which can destroy our bodies over time.
.
I don’t say this to shame anyone - and no one eats perfectly all the time - but I truly want to help others REALLY see what they are putting in their bodies and feeding their children.
.
So now that I’m feeling more like myself again in trimester two, I’m recommitting to nourishing this baby with real, whole foods - fruits, veggies, nuts, beans, seeds, free range organic eggs, quinoa, buckwheat, etc. and sharing more about this way of eating.
.
I’m tailoring back the Netflix bingeing and instead rereading books that have inspired me to live a longer, healthier life (books I’ve read several times over) and also adding a few new ones. If you have any interest in learning more, here are some I highly recommend:

📚Super Immunity by Dr. Fuhrman (the book that changed my view of food)
📚Eat to Live by Dr. F. (transform your body, lose weight while also nourishing it)
📚The Science of Skinny (all about what processed foods are really made of,
what makes them so bad for our bodies and why whole foods are so important)
📚The Toxin Solution (a book I have yet to read about toxins we encounter in our everyday life and how to rid them from our bodies)
📚Grain Brain (about how gluten, sugar and carbs effect the brain)

Oh boy I can’t wait to get started on this room! But first comes the design inspiration board. Here’s what I’m picturing. Thoughts??!

Welp, this picture pretty much sums up 2020. But I Welp, this picture pretty much sums up 2020. But I have to say, even though we are amidst a pandemic, this year wasn’t all bad.
.
Yeah it’s been tough being confined to our house (especially as a new stay at home mom who was REALLY looking forward to doing all of those mom activities), buuuut I’m also a homebody.
.
This year my cutie pie turned one.
.
I’ve gotten to watch Grace learn and grow.
.
My husband got to develop a special bond with her that he otherwise wouldn’t if he was still commuting to the office.
.
Grace started sleeping until 7am.
.
We are healthy.
.
We are happy.
.
So yeah, overall it’s been a decent year, but I’m also looking forward to what’s in store for 2021 … cause I think it’s gonna be good. ;-)

It might look like we had an easy afternoon playin It might look like we had an easy afternoon playing in the snow but this picture doesn’t show what it took to get a 20 month old (+ myself) dressed in winter gear, out the door and into the backyard. Let’s just say I was sweating bullets by the time I wrangled Grace into her outfit, there were a few spills outside, the sled I pulled her in almost toppled over a few times, Grace’s hat kept falling off into the snow, and we could barely walk because it was so high. But we made it out for Grace’s first time playing in the snow so success!

This little lady has made a huugggge breakthrough This little lady has made a huugggge breakthrough in the past week. Yes, my once wake-up-before-the-rooster-crows toddler is somehow now sleeping past 7AM! Ummm, I don’t want to jinx it but she’s even been sleeping until 8AM on some days! It’s been aahhhhmazing.
.
If you’ve been following my sleep saga, you know I’ve struggled to get Grace to nap. Don’t get me wrong, she’s always napped, but just not for very long. So not only is Grace sleeping in later, but she’s napping muuccch longer (hear that? It’s the sweet sound of my baby sleeping). The other day she took a 2.5 hour nap. So I’m basically on cloud nine over here.
.
I think all this has to do with Grace finally transitioning to one nap (which was a very rough transition that took months). If you’re a parent and going through something similar, just know there’s hope. I wrote all about the transition and this miracle breakthorugh in my latest blog post.
.
Link in my bio - as usual. ;-)

Since Grace was born 19 months ago, I’ve kept up Since Grace was born 19 months ago, I’ve kept up with my prenatal routine (a whole foods derived prenatal + algae omega).
.
I did this #1 because I breastfed and wanted Grace to get as much nutrition as possible, and #2 because I wanted to support my own health.
.
And I have to say, continuing prenatals after pregnancy has been super beneficial for me. I never experienced severe postnatal hair loss and they also help make up where my diet has lacked (because let’s face it, being a busy mom means you sometimes only eat whatever is in front of you at that moment — I’m literally eating pretzels for lunch right now).
.
I’ve recently taken my prenatal game up a notch by incorporating Mary Ruth’s Probiotic Prenatal+. They contain 59 billion CFUs per dose and on top of that vitamins like D3, folate and B12 (which is super important for me since I don’t eat meat).
.
Also, big bonus if you’re pregnant and take probiotics: research shows they may prevent pregnancy complications and reduce your baby’s risk of food allergies and eczema.
.
Before getting pregnant I’d usually forget to take my vitamins, but now I feel like they’re just another part of my daily routine. So big win!

Remember those photos we took a little while back Remember those photos we took a little while back for Connecticut Magazine? The article on our coastal ranch house remodel is published!! And I literally cried when I read it. This house was a labor of love and a tribute to my grandparents.
.
We’re featured in the online edition as well as the December print edition. We’ve been to a few stores to try to get our hands on an actual magazine but no luck yet so far. Eeeek I can’t wait to see it.
